Our chapter was chartered on December 5, 1969. We are a relatively small chapter with about 140 to 150 members, about half of whom are from outside the state of Colorado. Our local members are mostly residents of Gunnison, Almont and Crested Butte. We have been a fairly active chapter and have several special events and activities over the course of the year. We have won awards from Colorado Trout Unlimited with some of our previous projects such as collecting dead kokanee salmon to prevent the spread of whirling disease and using electro-shocking to collect insect samples from streams.
Here are some of our activities:
Superfly – The Gunnison chapter initiated this in 1989 and have held it annually every year since with one exception when we cancelled due to drought conditions.
Projects – In the past we have done willow plantings, building check dams, electro-shocking insects for studies and collecting dead kokanee salmon to help control whirling disease,
Awards – We have won many awards in the past, including the CTU Golden Trout Chapter in 1997.
