Superfly and the GAS Scholarship Fund
GAS Scholarship Fund provides financial support for the
Colorado TU Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp
In early 2010, the Gunnison Chapter of Trout Unlimited voted unanimously to provide financial support for the CTU Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp in lieu of developing our own youth camp here in the Gunnison Valley. Our financial support will be in the form of a scholarship fund, which will directly support further development of the camp and provide scholarships for students.
Our chapter allocated money raised from the previous two Superfly events for the initial set-up of the GAS scholarship fund. A check for $2,000.00 was presented to CTU at the Rendezvous in Redstone on April 16-17, 2010, by our Vice President and CTU Delegate, Bev Jordi. We plan to contribute additional money to this scholarship fund with proceeds from future Superfly events. Our main goal with Superfly will be to support youth education through our GAS scholarship fund.
Each year our chapter will help recruit students from our area for the CTU Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp. We hope to provide one or two scholarships (or more when possible) to cover the tuition for those from the Gunnison area interested in attending the camp. We will also be providing scholarships for students from other parts of Colorado when financial assistance is needed and when the funds are available.
We
are very excited to play a major role in support of the CTU camp, and we
look forward to building on our new scholarship fund in the years to come.
The 5th annual CTU Youth Conservation and Fly Fishing Camp will be held June 6-11, 2010, at the Beaver Run Trout Ranch near Aspen. Gunnison Chapter member, Taila Oulton (pictured at right), attended the youth camp last year and will be helping out CTU at the camp this year.
